“What would you get on your crystal set?” Vic asked his son. “Are there any stations still transmitting?” It had been his impression that radio stations had folded up several years ago.

Ragle said, “He can probably monitor ship-to-shore signals. Aircraft landing instructions.”

“Police calls,” Sammy declared.

“That’s right,” Ragle said. “The police still use radio for their cars.” Holding out his hand he accepted the crystal set from Vic. “I can trace the circuit later, Sammy,” he said. “But I’ve got too good a hand right now. How about tomorrow?”

Junie said, “Maybe he can pick up flying saucers.”

“Yes,” Marge agreed. “That’s what you ought to aim for.”

“I never thought of that,” Sammy said.

“There’s no such thing as flying saucers,” Bill Black said testily. He fiddled with his cards.

“Oh no?” Junie said. “Don’t kid yourself. Too many people have seen them for you to dismiss it. Or don’t you accept their documented testimony?”

“Weather balloons,” Bill Blake said. Vic was inclined to agree with him, and he saw Ragle nodding. “Meteors. Meteorological phenomena.”

“Absolutely,” Ragle said.

“But I read that people had actually ridden in them,” Margo said.

They all laughed, except Junie.

“It’s true,” Margo said. “I heard it over TV.”

Vic said, “I’ll go as far as admitting that there seems to be some sort of odd-ball stuff going on up there.” He remembered one experience of his own. The summer before, during a camping trip, he had watched a bright object flash across the sky at such velocity that no plane, even a jet-propelled plane, could have matched it. The thing had more the manner of a projectile. In an instant it had whisked off over the horizon. And occasionally, at night, he had heard rumblings, as if heavy vehicles were passing at reduced velocity across the sky. Windows had vibrated, so it had not been head-noises, as Margo had decided. In an article in a digest medical magazine she had read that head-noises indicate high blood pressure, and after that she had wanted him to visit their health-plan doctor for a checkup.

Paul “Ant-Man” Rudd predicted 9/11

In the late 1970s, Rudd wrote a mock newspaper story about 2 hijacked planes being flown into the World Trade Center in New York City and hijacked planes crashing into the Pentagon which read like the actual attacks 23 years later almost to a tee.

Feathered dinosaurs

Why Evolution Is True

by Matthew Cobb

There are a few people out there who seem to doubt that many dinosaurs had feathers (I’m looking at you Steven Spielberg) and that birds are just one kind of feathered dinosaur that survived the end-Cretaceous mass extinction around 65 million years ago. To settle the question once and for all, here are some pictures.

Just look at this lovely wryneck, posted by @skokholmisland yesterday (Skokholm is an island off the south-west coast of Wales, less well-known than its neighbour, Skomer – I visited it on a field course when I was at school).

Doesn’t it look all reptilian?

And if you are still a doubter, here’s a fantastic illustration by paleoartist Mark Witton (you can buy copies of Mark Witton’s fantastic art here), of Therizinosaurus as a terrifying giant pigeon:

Here’s a typical illustration of Therizonosaurus, taken from Walking with Dinosaurs. Frankly, once you’ve…

Oannes and Ouranos

It comes as a surprise when one first discovers that the Ancient Greeks quite often “reasoned out” their early mythology from depictions in the abandoned ruins of older and in some cases more advanced peoples.

Ouranos is one of the “primordial” Greek “gods” and the name is “translated” as Father Sky, logical counterpart to Mother Earth.

When one sees that in Ancient Egyp it was MOTHER Sky and FATHER EARTH, one also sees that such sexual designations are not inevitable. And one should also be suspicious of “translations” that make identifications inevitable.

All of which is by way of introcuction to the thought bubble – is ancient OANNES the origin of less ancient OURANOUS? The words are similar, and as much as anti-diffusionists, who in many cases are agenda driven anti-rationalists, oppose any logical thinking in relation to language, it is harder to argue that the same “middle east” which gave wholesale of its original pre-Aryan and Aryan culture to the Greeks and China would somehow omit Oannes.

Ouranos mates with Mother Earth. If we accept the basic syllogism for the purpose of argument, the element of earth is visited by another element. There are only three possibilities – air, fire or water.

In the case of Oannes, he is a “fish with human feet” or amphibian, depicted in a very intriguing way as a bearded human head emerging from a fish – suggestive of aquatic apes and bigfoot sightings such as the of the Big Muddy River in America.

Ouranos is identified with the sky in the usual Greek way of groupings based on an initial flawed premise tested to destruction. In the same manner that Akhnaten and Egyptian Thebes, the monotheism heresy and his children and incestuous relationships becomes Oedipus, the Seven Against Thebes and so on for the Hellenic world when in fact the whole thing is momentous Egyptian history, so too having Zeus (“Sky”) as ruler of the gods means “logically” his father-god and grandfather-god must too be sky rulers. But there is no reason why that would be true. Abandon that point and leave the relationships in place and something more logical emerges.

Oannes the civilizer “married” Mother Earth through the simple precedent of emerging from the ocean to dry land, there to teach the primitives of the foreshore pre-existing knowledge he and his race already held.

Matching Oannes with Ouranos opens some interesting doors.

Shaggy Tyrants

human_aquatic_adaptationsPondering alternative hypotheses regarding Bigfoot made me think back to the red furred “nephilim”, the aquatic ape hypothesis, Enkidu, the most ancient recorded “gods” and the fact that the earliest depictions of “gods” gave both male and female “deities” beards and shaggy hair, sometimes with horns.

If Enkido’s race are a breed of Bigfoot, which he certainly sounds like, might the ancient Sumerian gods be a Bigfoot species too?

It would explain their large size compared to their subjects, and also explain their long beards and hair irrespective of sex.

The creation myth describing how they made modern human stock would also fir with Bigfoot being such a close relative of modern humans too.

I still feel there is something like this in Earth’s past, and it is a fact that the US government swoops down on some Bigfoot encounters with the full secrecy apparatus.

I am wondering if the aquatic ape hypothesis if true led to a branch of Bigfoot type humanoids going back to the sea, living in it and under it, and developing an advanced technology, before re-emerging as Oannes for example and civilisng the terrestrial hominids they encountered.

Quite a few serious and sensible earlier UFO investigators, or more properly genuine Forteans, inclined eventually to the view that there was an undersea civilisation of great sophisticiation, living in sea floor cities at enormous depth.

Perhaps to Charles Fort’s “X” and “Y” theories we should add “Z” – Oannes the aquatic ape?
